[Oculus Quest 2] Wander
It’s ok but not enough
Well, this app was gifted to me; was in my wishlist, but I was not convinced enough to buy it yet… Now I can say that my doubts were founded.
Ok that costs “just” 10$ but it’s a simple “Google street view” player with a minimalistic social functionality that allows friends to see the same photosphere and a personal lobby where you can see your favorites and achievement (visiting special places).
This app could be way more interesting with minimal effort adding some advanced explorability and fun mini game.
I was thinking:
-why don’t include a game like “Geoguessr” where you get spawned somewhere in the world and you have to guess your location looking the surrounding?
-because is possible to visit any photosphere available on Google Maps, even the community ones, another good thing could be the possibility to follow/see the profile of the author of the picture to see all his portfolio (like on Google maps).
-the all experience is mute, they could put surrounding sounds based on the place you are viewing; city/coast/countryside/desert/etc..
So the experience will be more relaxing and immersive.
Then few appreciated bugs fix/update to do:
-*The app works with 2 controllers but is possible to explore anything also with just the right controller, so when the left controller is not active there are the left controller’s instructions visible in the middle air.
[*EDIT: with the April’s update the left controller is needed to speed the navigation but still not essential, if you don’t mind to zoom; yes, they removed the zoom slide from the map and now is available only on the left controller]]
-**the button to activate the voice search is way too easy to push (don’t know if is just me); because I never use it will be a good option to disable the voice search from the option menù.
[**EDIT: with the April’s update they changed the user interface, now is possible to choose between basic and advanced control system where basic doesn’t have the voice activation control]
